Great Sound
That great sound the Bell Tap produces is affected by a number of things. The tap is designed so that the pivoting (no rivet) center plate consistently strikes the base plate's forward edge. This never changes, no matter how you strike the tap on the floor. When the strike occurs, a small megaphone shaped cavity is formed, facing the rear of the tap. This cavity gives the tap its mellow tone. The front edge of the center soundboard also has a heavy mass that helps produce a harder strike on the base and eliminates the "tinny" sound that a thin plate would produce. This mass also gives the toe of the tap a rounded end so that it cannot nick or chop the dance floor when dancing "buck" style. | |
